 Prof.dr.sc. Thomas Attin

 Gostujući profesor na Zavodu za endodonciju i restaurativnu stomatologiju za akademske godine: 2022./2023. i 2023./2024.

 Thomas Attin položio je državni stomatološki ispit 1989. godine na Sveučilištu u Marburgu, gdje je doktorirao 1991. Od 1989. do 1999. radio je na sveučilištima u Heidelbergu, Kölnu i Freiburgu i. Brg. i u stomatološkoj ordinaciji. 1997. imenovan je kao Privatdozent. Godine 1999. postao je voditelj dužnosti predstojnika Odjela za operativnu stomatologiju i parodontologiju Freie Universität Berlin kao gostujući profesor. 2000. imenovan je redovitim profesorom i ravnateljem Odjela za operativnu stomatologiju, preventivnu stomatologiju i parodontologiju Sveučilišta u Göttingenu. 2006. imenovan je redovitim profesorom i ravnateljem Klinike za preventivnu stomatologiju, parodontologiju i karijesologiju Sveučilišta u Zürichu. Profesor Attin dekan je Centra za stomatologiju i prodekan Medicinskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zürichu, Švicarska od 2013. do 2022. Njegova istraživanja usredotočena su na različite grane konzervativne stomatologije s naglaskom na preventivnu stomatologiju i karijesologiju.

Prof. Attin je autor / koautor 539 izvornih znanstvenih publikacija s više od 17500 citata. Njegov faktor h iznosi 67. Do sada je održao 423 pozvanih predavanja i 293 praktičnih radionica. Dobitnik je 40 nagrada i priznanja za svoj rad.

 

 Prof. Rui Pedro Pinheiro de Albuquerque

 Visiting Professor at the Department of Oral Medicine for  academic years 2023/24 and 2024/25

 Dr Rui Albuquerque completed his undergraduate dental degree in Portugal (2006), his Masters degree in Oral Medicine (2007) and PhD (2012) in the University of Barcelona. He then moved to the UK, where he completed his specialist training in Oral Medicine in Birmingham . After completing specialist training (FDS OM) Rui was appointed Consultant in Oral Medicine at Guy’s Hospital, London, where he leads the Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) clinic. His additional clinical duties include the running of multiple general oral medicine clinics, where he provides a specialist outpatient service for those with complex oral mucosal disease. His research interests include Oral Potentially Malignant disorders, Oral Cancer and Facial Pain disorders, in particular BMS, having completed multiple collaborative research work in this field. (ORCID: 0000-0002-1741-8871) . I co-authored an e-learning module on Oral Cancer and served as the principal investigator for a project on smoking cessation advice for healthcare professionals, which resulted in several publications in educational journals and books. This project was funded by the European Union (KA2). Additionally, I was the principal investigator on a cohort study focusing on oral lichen planus, which received funding from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) and was adopted into the NIHR portfolio. Currently, I am leading a European Union grant aimed at developing e-learning resources to train healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and management of Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders (www.OPMDcare.com).

Dr. Treister is Chief of the Division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Clinical
Director of Oral Medicine and Oral Oncology at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Treister earned his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and subsequently completed his Oral Medicine and Oral Biology training at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he is an Associate Professor of Oral Medicine in the Department of Oral Medicine, Infection and Immunity.
He is board certified in Oral Medicine and practices at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, with special interest in oral mucosal diseases, salivary gland diseases, orofacial pain disorders, and oral complications in cancer patients.

He has published extensively in the field of oral medicine with an emphasis on oral complications of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation and oral graft-versus-host disease, and is a past president of the American Academy of Oral Medicine. He is co-principal investigator of an NIH R01 grant entitled “Long Term Oral Health Outcomes in the Chronic GVHD Consortium” and serves as site principal investigator for an NIH U01 grant entitled “Clinical Registry of Dental Outcomes in Head and Neck Cancer Patients”.

 

Profesor Cristiana Palmela Pereira DMD, PhD

Visiting professor at the Department of Dental Anthropology in academic years: 2024/2025, 2025/2026

Professor Cristiana Palmela Pereira obtained her diploma in dental medicine at the Faculty of Dental Medicine of the University of Lisbon in 2000. She received her master's degree and doctorate in Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, Portugal, respectively in 2005 and 2010. In 2020, she obtained the title of Specialist in Forensic and Legal Dental Medicine at the University of Lisbon. She is the leader of the postgraduate study on post-traumatic evaluation of physical damage (2007). At the Faculty of Dental Mecdicine in Lisbon, she participates in teaching Morphology and Biology of Human Teeth and Forensic Dentistry.

Prof. Pereira is a forensic dentist of the Portuguese DVI (Disaster Victim Identification) team and is the Portuguese delegate for the subgroup for forensic dentistry of the Interpol DVI group. She is a delegate of Portuguese standardization (IPQ) for TC 106 Dentistry and for TC 272 Forensic Sciences. She is a guest member of OSAC NIST in the subcommittee for Forensic Dentistry.

Professor Cristiana Palmela Pereira has been awarded with national and international awards, such as the highest prize of IOFOS, Ferdinand STRÖM. Her research is primarily related to forensic dentistry in the main fields of forensic pathology (human identification and identification of other variables related to the circumstances of death) and clinical forensic medicine (bite marks and age estimation).

From 2020 until today, she is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Portuguese Dental Association (OMD), and the last nomination was in February 2022 for the President of the Executive Committee of Forensic Dental Experts of the Portuguese Dental Association (OMD). In December 2022, she is a professor by invitation at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. Since March 2023, she has been the Vice Chair of the Consensus Body on Forensic Odontology of the Academic Standards Board (ASB, AAFS). She currently holds the position of president of the International Organization for Forensic Odonto-Stomatology (IOFOS).

 

 

Prof. Dr. Anton Sculean DMD, MS, PhD

Prof. Dr. Anton Sculean was born in 1965 in Targu-Mures, Romania. He studied dental medicine in Münster, Germany and Budapest, Hungary, and obtained his PhD at the University of Szeged, Hungary. Currently, he is a Head of Research at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Periodontology, University of Bern, Switzerland. Starting January 2022, Prof. Sculean is the Editor-in-Chief of Periodontology 2000.

He is President Elect of the Continental European Division (CED) of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), Director of the Osteology Scholarship Center, School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern and Co-Director of the ITI Scholarship Center, School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern.

Prof. Sculean is a Board Member of the Osteology Foundation and Oral Reconstruction Foundation, and a Member of the Extended Board of the Periodontal Research Group (PRG) of the IADR, Nominating Committee of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), Workshop Committee of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) and Executive Board of the International Academy of Periodontology (IAP). He is past President of the International Academy of Periodontology (IAP) (2018-2021), European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) (2018-2019) (37 member countries), Swiss Society of Periodontology (SSP) (2012-2016) and Periodontal Research Group (PRG) of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) (2009-2010).

During the past 25 years, his research had always a strong translational character mainly focussing on the following specific areas: periodontal wound healing and regeneration, development of novel strategies for the treatment of periodontal and peri-implant infections, and healing and regeneration of soft tissue defects at teeth and dental implants.

Prof. Sculean has more than 500 publications listed in PubMed, and is ranked as the top-rated expert in Periodontics worldwide during the years 2011 – 2022 according to Expertscape. His h-index is 62 according to the Web of knowledge. He holds many Editorial Board Memberships, as well as Journal Editorships.

 

 

Prof. Dr. Christian H. Splieth was born on March 9, 1964 in Bremen, Germany. He studied dentistry in Göttingen/Germany, Leeds/England and Minneapolis/USA. After 3 years of work in private practice, he joined the University of Greifswald in year 1993, where his main interests were cariology and preventive and pediatric dentistry. Due to his research work in the aforementioned areas and multiple study conducted in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, he became the Head of the Department of Preventive and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Kiel in April 2004. At the end of the same year, he moved again to Greifswald, where he became the head of the Department for Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, and he is still at the same position. He is the editor of a dozen important textbooks in pediatric dentistry and prevention of caries, and the winner of valuable awards at prestigious international congresses for scientific studies. He was the president of the German Association of Pediatric Dentists in 2013/2015. In 2014, he became Co-president of the European Organization of Caries Research (ORCA), and in the 2019-2021 he was also the president of ORCA. In September year 2022. he was elected as a guest professor at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb for next two academic years 2022/23. and 2023/24.

 

Prof. Richard G. Scott

 Foundation Professor of Anthropology

G. Richard Scott is a Foundation Professor of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Reno. He earned his B.A. and PhD degrees in Anthropology at Arizona State University.  After completing his degree under Christy G. Turner II in 1973, he taught at the University of Alaska Fairbanks from 1973 to 1997. After a short-lived retirement, he resumed his academic career at the University of Nevada, Reno in 2001. His specialty is dental anthropology, with a focus on human tooth crown and root morphology. He has written or edited five books in this area, including The Anthropology of Modern Human Teeth (1997), which came out in a second edition in 2018. Geographically, he has worked in the American Southwest, Alaska, the North Atlantic, and Spain.

 

 Prof. dr. Luc A.M. Marks DDS, MSc, PhD

Prof. Marks graduated in Paediatric Dentistry and Special care (MSc) at Ghent University / Belgium in 1995. From 1995 until 1999 he was guest researcher at the department of Pedodontology and Cariology at ACTA Amsterdam / the Netherlands. A PhD was defended in the year 2000 with the title: The potential of polyacid modified in preventing recurrent caries: an in vitro and in vivo study. A degree on Financial hospital management (Vlerick Academic Business and Management school Gent / Belgium 2008) and People management (Gent university 2012) was obtained successfully. Prof. Luc Marks is chair of the Centre for Special Care in Dentistry at Ghent University hospital, Belgium. Major research interests are the treatment of Special Care patients including epidemiology and ethics. He published over 75 international papers/ book chapters. He is founding member and past president of the Belgian Academy of Paediatric dentistry ( BAPD) and served as board member of the European academy of Paediatric dentistry (EAPD) (Honn. Treasurer 2000-2006). As Chairman of the educational comm. of EAPD (2000-2002) he developed the EAPD guideline framework for Undergraduate education in Paediatric Dentistry. Currently Prof. Marks is president–elect of the International Association for Disability and Oral Health (IADH) and president-elect of the international dental ethics and law society (IDEALS). As regional clinical advisor Europe/Eurasia of the Special Smiles program he serves in the research comm. of the Special Olympics organisation. Prof. Marks is appointed as visiting Professor at the University of Zagreb, guest lecturer / external examiner at the University of Ljubliana, Slovenia and external examiner at Marmaris University, Istanbul Turkey and Trinity College, Dublin University, Ireland. Prof Marks serves in the editorial board of Special Care in Dentistry and of ACTA stomotologica Croatica.

Prof. Mladen Kuftinec

Mladen [“Miki”] Kuftinec was born in Croatia, where he was educated in the Classical tradition, after which he completed studies in Stomatology. Upon coming to America in 1965, he studied in Boston [DMD at Harvard, Doctorate of Sciences at MIT and Specialty of Orthodontics at Harvard]. He then embarked to a life-long career in dental education, holding key academic positions in Virginia, Kentucky and New York City. He was frequently invited speaker nationally and internationally. In 2006 he was named a Visiting Professor at U Zagreb, where he spent a Sabbatical Year in the Department of Orthodontics. He is author of over 300 scientific papers, abstracts, chapters and books. He has been named a Visiting Professor in 8 universities and was honored as a Honorary Citizen in 7 world’s cities, including the City of Zagreb in 1992. Prof. Kuftinec also served as Director of the Certification Board for Nutrition Specialists, a national organization regulating the process of recognition of nutrition specialists. He is formally trained in music and performed in the world’s most prestigious venues, including numerous appearances at NY’s Carnegie Hall. Currently he lives in Florida.

Author and co-author of over 380 scientific papers, 33 books and book chapters. Recognized member of many different scientific societies (WHO, ORCA, FDI, ADEE -–President 1992, ADA). In 1994 was appointed as Visiting professor at School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb.

He started working at Department of Oral Pathology in Zagreb as an assistant, from 1966 till 1968, prior to his postdoctoral study at School of Dental Medicine in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1972 he got a position at Department of Preventive Dentistry, Periodontology and Cariology, Dental Institute, University of Zürich. In 1978 he habilitated at School of Medicine, University of Zürich, where in 1984 he was appointed as a University Professor. He was in charge of a well-known caries preventive program from 1982 till 2000 for all School Clinics in Zürich. He is author and co-author of many scientific publications, recognized member of many different scientific societies and lecturer and instructor on numerous theoretical and practical training courses in Periodontology in Croatia and worldwide. In 1992, he became Visiting professor at School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb. He was also re-elected as Visiting professor for academic years 2007/08 and 2008/09.

He spent the final years of his life performing as a guest Professor at Danube University Krems (Austria). Prof. Miomir Cvek (1927 – 2008)

In 1959 he got a position at Eastman Institute in Sweden at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. His field of interest were endodontic problems associated with traumatized teeth with open apices and in that regard he is probably most recognized for the procedure he developed called “Cvek-type pulpotomy”. In 1980 he was appointed as Visiting professor in South Africa (Johannesburg and Cape Town). He received recognition on several occasions for his extraordinary contributions to dentistry and dental traumatology (1994 - IADT with its first certificate of appreciation, 2003 - Ralph Summer Award from the AAE). He retired in 1992 from the position as the head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Eastman Institute. From 1994, he was Visiting professor at School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb.
